“Rez” was the cult classic video game released by Sega in 2001. Now, a remake called “Rez Infinite” is coming to the PlayStation 4 that can be played through PS4 VR and it is a visual feast for the eyes. Not only does it retain the style of the first game, Enhance Games made it look like a hallucinogenic dream.
The first “Rez” title was created by Tetsuya Mizuguchi, Wired reports, and it was considered a visual masterpiece at the time. Thanks to innovative gameplay, impressive sound effects, and harmonious scores, the title played like a painting session with music blaring in the background to each stroke of the brush.
“Rez Infinite” feels pretty much the same, with astoundingly improved graphical qualities. Anyone who played and loved the original will immediately see the difference and appreciate the work that Enhance Games and Mizuguchi put into the remake.
For those who aren’t planning on getting the PS4 VR headset and want to try this game, there’s no need to worry. It’s also playable on regular, 4K TVs. Speaking of which, the game runs at 60fps and can offer 4K resolution for those who have the hardware needed. During last week’s Tokyo Game Show, the game was shown on a 65-inch 4K TV and by all accounts, it was astoundingly sharp.
Polygon does note that the game does not support HDR lighting at the moment. If enough players demand it, however, the developers said that they would consider adding it.
Now, in terms of gameplay, it still sports the same mechanics of painting enemies with the cursor and letting the virtual bullets fly. Movement is just a matter of looking at a particular direction and accelerating or decelerating. According to Mizuguchi, the game has also been extensively tested to avoid VR sickness, so it should be a relatively comfortable experience for those who suffer from the issue.
